Watch Eels cover Prince’s ‘Raspberry Beret’ at Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival

The band have included the classic in their setlist on their current European tour

Eels have covered Prince‘s classic song ‘Raspberry Beret’ during their performance at Madrid’s Mad Cool Festival.

The 2018 edition of the event kicked off today (July 12), with the first day featuring performances from Slaves, Tame Impala, Pearl Jam, Kasabian, MGMT, and more.

‘Raspberry Beret’ has been a staple of Eels’ set since they started their current world tour in May, featuring early on in their set at most shows so far. That didn’t change when the band took to the Madrid Te Abraza Stage earlier today, as you can see in the fan-shot clip below. Below that, watch Eels perform the hit in full in Barcelona on Wednesday (July 11).

Eels released their 12 studio album ‘The Deconstruction‘ earlier this year. Speaking to NME around its release, Mark ‘E’ Everett discussed the record’s lyrics, saying: “I think that a lot of it is about compassion and kindness and trying to accept our reality. That’s the key to happiness. I’m not an expert on any of the subjects in the songs on this record. Whoever I’m talking to in the song, I’m also simultaneously talking to myself.”

He also revealed he could write a sequel to his acclaimed autobiography, Things The Grandchildren Should Know. Asked if he would pen a follow-up, he replied: “It’s possible. When I first wrote that book I thought ‘ah, it’s going to be the most boring book on Earth’. That was of course, naive of me to think. There’s probably a very entertaining sequel in the 10 years that have happened since. We’ll see.”

Mad Cool runs until Saturday (July 14) with headline performances from Pearl Jam, Jack White, Depeche Mode, and Queens Of The Stone Age. Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, Wolf Alice, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, and James Bay are also among the other acts on the bill.
