The Japanese kawaii metal group's world tour kicks off today (May 7)
Babymetal have shared a surprise new single called ‘Distortion’ to celebrate the start of their latest world tour.
The Japanese kawaii metal band kick off the new series of dates in Kansas City, Missouri today (May 7). After a string of North American dates, they will arrive in Europe in June, where they will appear at German festivals Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, headline shows in Austria and the Netherlands, and at Download in the UK.
The band shared the eerie video for ‘Distortion’ earlier today, which looks like something out of a dark superhero movie. Watch the video below.
Babymetal have also shared some new information about the next chapter of the band, following on from last month’s “revelation” that “we have only experienced the light side” and that “an unknown dark side, a legend of seven metal spirits, the chosen seven exists”. In a press release, they wrote: “The new song ‘Distortion’ explores the unrevealed dark side, the apocrypha, the legend of seven metal spirits in which power is distorted through time and space.
“The music video of this song presents this unknown side and marks the important beginning of a new legend.”
Earlier this month (May 1), Babymetal announced they had launched their own label, Babymetal Records. The imprint has been set up in association with 5B Artist Management And Record, who manage the likes of Megadeth and Slipknot. Cooking Vinyl, who have taken care of distribution for artists like Marilyn Manson and The Prodigy, will also be involved.
