The former Oasis guitarist hasn't been swept up by World Cup fever
Noel Gallagher was booed by his fans when he suggested England aren’t going to win the World Cup.
The national team are now through to the semi-finals after beating Sweden 2-0 earlier today (July 7). Harry Maguire and Dele Alli scored the goals that ensured they will face either Croatia or Russia in the penultimate round of the tournament.
Gallagher played at Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre last night (July 6) with the High Flying Birds when he elicited the unimpressed response from his fans. After the crowd broke into a rendition of football anthem ‘Three Lions’, the former Oasis guitarist said: “Seriously though, it fucking so isn’t.”
He continued: “It fucking is not. It is not. You fucking know it and I know it.” The audience began to boo his comments as stayed adamant that football isn’t coming home. Watch fan-shot footage of the moment above.
Meanwhile, Gallagher’s brother Liam recently paid tribute to the guitarist on Twitter when one fan asked who was the “better” of the two. “There is no such thing as better,” Liam responded. “We are brothers and when we’re together no fucker and I mean no fucker comes close OASIS 4 LIFE.”
Last week (July 2), Noel announced an intimate gig in his hometown of Manchester to take place later this month. He will now stop off at the city’s The Ritz venue on July 18. Tickets for all the High Flying Birds’ current UK shows are available here.
