Forbes has announced the wealthiest hip-hop acts of 2018.
Jay-Z has been named the wealthiest hip-hop act of 2018, according to Forbes’ annual list.
This is the first time the rapper has topped the list.
Forbes reports that Jay-Z increased his net worth from $810 million (£589 million) to $900 million (£654 million) over the past year. This is apparenty thanks to the rising value of his interests in Armand de Brignac champagne and D’Ussé cognac, as well as his huge stakes in Roc Nation and Tidal.
Diddy wasn’t knocked far from the top spot, as he ranks at number two, with $825 million (£599 million).
Dr Dre is in the third spot, with a net worth of $770 million (£559 million). His increasing wealth is thanks to a nine-figure windfall from Apple’s $3 billion buyout of Beats in 2014.
Drake – who gave away almost $1 million in his ‘God’s Plan’ video – has been wanting to make the Forbest list since 2013.
“Every year, we just want to get more prepared and better at touring and better at things that make money,” he told Forbes in 2013.
“If I’m not on your list this year, I’d be gravely disappointed…That’s pretty much my objective every year, other than making good music.”
Jay-Z has been making the most of his money, as he recently racked up a massive bar tab at a New York bar – and left a pretty generous tip for staff.
Meanwhile, fans have been speculating whether Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z will be announcing a joint UK tour, after eagle-eyed gig-goers spotted a ‘Beyoncé and Jay-Z tickets’ landing page on UK Ticketmaster.
