Sony Music has apologised after it increased the prices of two Whitney Houston albums on Apple’s iTunes Store just hours after the singer’s death.
The singer passed away last Saturday (February 11) at the age of 48. She was discovered underwater and unconscious in a bath at a hotel in Beverly Hills, and, soon after news broke that she had died, the price of her albums’ ‘The Ultimate Collection’ and ‘Greatest Hits’ were increased.
The singer’s ‘The Ultimate Collection’ rose in price from £4.99 to £7.99 and ‘Whitney: The Greatest Hits’ also went up from £7.99 to £9.99. The price increase was in effect on the UK version of iTunes for a few hours on Sunday morning (February 12).
Sony Music have issued a statement to Billboard.biz, which reads as follows: “Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the UK iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologise for any offence caused.”
Whitney Houston‘s funeral will take place this Saturday (February 18) in the New Jersey Church that she attended and sang in as a child. The funeral will take place at 5pm (GMT), which is 12pm (EST), in Newark’s New Hope Baptist Church.
