WHITNEY HOUSTON has signed what appears to be the biggest record contract in history agreeing a $100 million deal with ARISTA.

Under the terms of the deal the troubled diva is set to deliver at least six albums plus two Greatest Hits collections to Arista, her home throughout her career.

According to a Reuters report, Houston is due to head into the studio within weeks to begin recording the first of the albums. Arista president Antonio ‘LA’ Reid is mooted to executive produce.

News of the signing scuppers reports that Houston was to defect to J Records, the label recently established by Arista founder Clive Davis. Davis was ousted and replaced by Reid in Spring 2000 in a battle over boardroom succession.

“We didn’t have to fight for it,” Reid told Variety in the US. “Whitney was a big supporter of the company from the get-go – there was never any conversation about her leaving.”

Houston‘s deal eclipses the $80 million that took the recently hospitalised Mariah Carey from Sony to Virgin. Houston has sold some 140 million albums and singles during her career.
