Crew member dies after fall Will Young gig

Accident occurs before Rochester Castle show

A crew member has died after a fall before a Will Young concert last night (July 15).

The man, who was in his 40s, was injured before the show at Kent‘s Rochester Castle, reports BBC News.

The member of the event’s local crew, who has not yet been publically named, fell off the stage, with the South East Coast Ambulance Service called to the scene at 5:41pm (BST). A spokesperson for the service said he “had severe facial and head injuries and severe bleeding”.

They added: “We were on the scene within six minutes. The patient was going into cardiac arrest and he was conveyed to the Medway Maritime Hospital. We pre-alerted the hospital of his arrival which suggests he was in quite a bad way.”

Will Young issued a statement after learning of the fatality: “I am shocked and so saddened by last night’s tragic accident before the Rochester show. I was unaware of the seriousness of the incident until after I left the stage. My deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.”

A call had been put out on the public address system at the show following the incident, asking for witnesses. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
