The 'Pop Idol' winner is streaks ahead of the competition in this week's midweek chart...

The WILL YOUNG phenomenon continues, with midweek sales figures showing he’s now sold 1.5 million copies of his debut single.

His double A-side, ‘Evergreen’/’Anything is Possible’ is the best selling single so far this week and “comfortably” on course to stay at the top of the UK singles chart for a third consecutive week, according to an expert at HMV in London.

The single is outselling this week’s current highest new entry, Shaggy and Ali G’s ‘Me Julie’ at a ratio of two copies to one.

The expert commented: “Upto and including yesterday, Will has now sold just over 1.5m copies since the record-breaking single was released on February 25th. Although the rate of sales is obviously slowing down since that amazing first week, the rate of decline is similar to the level seen last week, which suggests that Will’s announcement that he is gay has not had an adverse affect on sales.”

Other new entries this week are set to come from Iron Maiden, who is at Number Four with ‘Ain’t it Funny’, Celine Dion, who is at Number Five with ‘A New Day Has Come’ and [a][/a], who are at Number Nine with a live version of their classic ‘Run To The Hills’. Natalie Imbruglia is also set to sneak into the Top Ten. Her single ‘Wrong Impression’ is at Number Ten in the midweek chart.
