Will.i.am scores 10th UK Number One single with ‘It’s My Birthday’

Ed Sheeran's 'X' stays at the top of Official Album Chart for a third week

William‘s new single ‘It’s My Birthday’, which features 17-year-old US singer Cody Wise, has gone to the top of the UK’s Official Singles Chart, giving him his 10th Number One single.

Will.i.am scored his first UK Number One in 2003 with ‘Where Is The Love’, as part of The Black Eyed Peas. Other chart-toppers include ‘Boom Boom Pow’, ‘I Gotta Feeling’ and ‘Meet Me Halfway’. He’s now appeared on five Number One singles as a solo artist.

Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea dropped one place to Number Two with ‘Problem’, while Ella Henderson slid one to Number Three with ‘Ghost’. Number Four are The Vamps, who climbed 35 places with ‘Somebody To You’, the huge rise largely due to the release of a re-recorded version featuring former Disney star Demi Lovato. George Ezra’s ‘Budapest’ is at Number Five.

In the Official Albums Chart, Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ is to spend a third week at Number One, and remains the country’s biggest-selling album so far this year. His closest rival was Manic Street Preachers‘ new album ‘Futurology’, which went straight in at Number Two. It’s the Welsh trio’s 12th album, and was produced by Alex Silva, who produced the band’s seminal 1994 album, ‘The Holy Bible’. ‘Futurology’ was recorded at Berlin’s Hansa Tonstudio, previously used by Davie Bowie, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop in the 1970s.

Finally, Dolly Parton continues to feel the so-called ‘Glastonbury effect’ as her latest album, ‘Blue Smoke’, climbed one place to Number Three, making it the highest-charting UK album of the US star’s career.
