Wu Lyf have spoken out against what they say is “sexist” car advert that uses their track ‘Heavy Pop’ – scroll down to watch it.
The advert for the new Toyota GT86 features the track from the band’s album ‘Go Tell Fire To The Mountain’. It’s premise is a series of men explaining to their wives and girlfriends why they bought the car, with the women subsequently getting angry about the purchase. Seemingly, nobody told Toyota that women are also capable of buying cars.
Writing on their Facebook page, the band put: “TO ANYBODY INTERESTED AS TO WHY WE ARE FEATURED IN A TOYOTA ADVERT: We too are interested to know why our music is featured in a sexist sports car advert that encourages men to live out their ‘inner chauvinist’.”
They added: “We have not consented to this, we have not earned a penny from this and on behalf of the band I am fucking angry about this. Wouldn’t have minded so much if it was for a Lamborghini.”
A comment request from Toyota has not as yet been returned.
