Wyclef Jean unable to appeal Haiti presidency shortlist exclusion

Former Fugee will not be running, council lawyer says

Wyclef Jean will not be able to appeal against his exclusion from the candidacy list for the forthcoming Haiti presidential elections, a council lawyer has said.

The former Fugees member was excluded from the list because he did not fulfil requirements for the role on various points. He said he would appeal, but Samuel Pierre, a lawyer at the electoral council in the country, said the decision could not be challenged.

“There is absolutely no possibility for Wyclef Jean to be added to the list of candidates approved to run in the next presidential elections,” he told Reuters. “So it’s over.”

Jean recently said he was in hiding after receiving death threats in Haiti.
