U2 frontman, Quincy Jones and Bob Geldof to meet with Pope in bid to end debt...

Bono and Wyclef Jean will perform their single ‘New Day’ – the song composed especially for NetAid – tonight in New York (11.30pm GMT) in New York at the UN Race Against Poverty awards.

At a press conference that has just finished in New York, Bono announced that he will join a Jubilee 2000 delegation to Rome top meet with Pope John Paul II, along with veteran composer/producer Quincy Jones, Bob Geldof academics and representatives of the Jubilee 2000 oerganisation which is campaigning to end third world debt.

Bono said he would be seeking “the blessing and wisdom” of the Pope, who has already called on western banks to make 2000 AD a jubilee year celebrated by debt cancellation.

Fact: the Pope is currently number one in the album charts in his native Poland.
