After torrential rains turned Liberty State Park into a Glastonbury-style mud-fest, the skies cleared in time for Karen O and co’s set, during which the singer acknowledged the absence of their New York counterparts.
“Listen up,” O began. “New York…New Jersey…Yeah Yeah Yeahs – it’s a match made in heaven. We love you so god damn much. And we send much Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs love to Beastie Boys and our friend Adam,” she said as they launched into an acoustic version of 2003 single ‘Maps’.
O wore a string of typically flamboyant outfits throughout the set, including a shoulderless print dress and patterened tights, and a studded leather jacket for ‘Zero’.
This is the second year of the New Jersey festival, which will run until Sunday (August 2). This weekend will feature performances from My Bloody Valentine, Arctic Monkeys, We Are Scientists, MGMT and Coldplay.
