In a statement, Karen O said of the project: “After making music for the past twenty years and embarking on making this record with Danger Mouse I knew a couple things: one was that the spirit of collaboration between us was going to be a pure one, and two was that the more I live the less is clear to me. When you create from a blurry place you can go places further than you’ve ever been. I think we both were excited to go far out.”

Danger Mouse added: “With ‘Lux Prima,’ we were really looking for a place rather than a sound. It was our first shared destination so we thought we’d take our time getting there. The song itself is a bit of a journey, but all the parts felt like they needed each other.”

Both artists have been working on separate projects over the last year with Danger Mouse producing Parquet Courts’ recent album ‘Wide Awake’ while Karen O released new track  ‘YO! MY SAINT’ earlier this year and recently toured with Yeah Yeah Yeahs which included an appearance at London’s All Points East.

Speaking earlier this year, Karen O also recently hinted that her collaboration with Danger Mouse would be coming “early next year”.

“It’s like a collab with a producer so, yeah. It’s finished, we’re just kinda developing [it], like preproduction with the way we’re gonna roll it out,” she said at the time. “[I’ll probably play] some special gigs you know but probably not a world tour!

“It’s probably a handful of some special gigs – but we have some cool stuff cooking up for that!”

The singer also recently revealed that Yeah Yeah Yeahs are looking forward to recording new material together.

Asked if they were ‘feeling the pull’ to work on a new album, she replied: “Yeah, think so! The guys for the most part, I think they’re waiting on my just ‘getting struck by inspiration’ for it, y’know?

“A lot has changed in my life in the last 5 years and I’m just kinda waiting for the inspiration to hit me – and then we’ll go.

She continued: “I just feel like I’ve never really ‘pushed it’, just kinda waited for it to really feel like this overwhelming…”
