YNW Melly pleads not guilty to double murder

The rapper and singer was arrested and charged by police last month

YNW Melly has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

The rising rapper and singer, who hails from south Florida, was arrested and charged on February 13 by police who are investigating the deaths of Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr. The men were both shot dead on October 26. Melly’s associate Cortlen Henry, also known as YNW Bortlen, was also arrested and charged.

Melly, real name Jamell Demons, has this week entered a not guilty plea to the two charges. Bortlen’s arraignment, meanwhile, is set for Monday (March 11).

Late last month, it was reported that police had accused both Melly and Bortlen of faking a drive-by shooting in an effort to cover up the alleged double-murder of Williams and Thomas Jr.

Responding to his arrest in an Instagram post last month, Melly said that he had voluntarily turned himself in to police.

“I am turning myself in today I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y’all, a couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately a lot of rumours and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen and we want y’all to remember it’s a ynw Family I love you @ynwsakchaser1 and @ynwjuvy #freeus.”
