YNW Melly has reportedly been accused by police of faking a drive-by shooting to cover up the alleged double-murder of two of his friends.
The rising south Florida rapper/singer was first arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder on February 14 by police investigating the deaths of Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas Jr, who were both shot dead on October 26. Melly’s associate Cortlen Henry, otherwise known as YNW Bortlen, was also arrested and charged.
Melly, real name Jamell Demons, is now reportedly facing accusations that he faked a drive-by shooting in an effort to cover up the murders of Williams and Thomas Jr.
According to TMZ, police are saying that Henry drove the two dead bodies to an emergency room in the early hours of the morning on October 26, where he then claimed that they’d been shot at during a drive-by incident as they were leaving a studio session.
While there were eight bullet holes along the side of the car, forensic evidence apparently contradicted Henry’s story – with police, who found a shell casing inside the vehicle, saying that the initial shot was fired from inside the car from the rear left passenger seat, where Melly was allegedly sitting.
Police believe that Melly and Henry subsequently shot at the car in order to make it look like a drive-by shooting.
Responding to his arrest in an Instagram post on February 14, Melly said that he had voluntarily turned himself into police.
“I am turning myself in today I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y’all, a couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice.
“Unfortunately a lot of rumours and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen and we want y’all to remember it’s a ynw Family I love you @ynwsakchaser1 and @ynwjuvy #freeus,” he added.
