Yoko Ono will launch a new John Lennon educational bus in Liverpool next month, before touring it around the UK and Europe.
The bus is dedicated to giving young people the chance to get involved with music, video, photography, game and broadcast projects inside the bus’s mobile recording studios. Its sister bus in the US was set up by Ono 16 years ago.
Ono will launch the bus at the Museum of Liverpool on May 8 before it embarks on a tour around schools, colleges and festivals across the UK and Europe, including a stint at London’s Southbank centre as part of the her Meltdown Festival in June, which will see a raft of artists including Patti Smith, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Iggy Pop and Savages perform.
“The educational bus is a huge success in the USA. But John would have been extra thrilled that it is now launching in Europe, starting in Liverpool, his home town,” Yoko Ono says in a press statement. “I’m so thrilled that the Educational Tour Bus will be situated at Meltdown. All kids who are interested in making music and learning how to use instruments in the recording studio should come and make use of this freebie.”
