G-UNIT’s YOUNG BUCK is being urged to surrender to police after being suspected of involved in the stabbing of a man during a fracas at Monday’s (November 15) VIBE awards.
Detectives are reportedly negotiating his surrender with the rapper’s attorney Scott Leemon, but have yet to reach an agreement.
New York attorney Leemon has issued a statement saying that Young Buck – real name David Darnell Brown – would “surrender in the near future and then be released on bail”.
Police lieutenant Frank Fabrega said: “We’re encouraging him to surrender.” According to the officer, the rapper’s bail has already been set at $500,000.
Although Leemon has not specified when Young Buck will turn himself in, he said: “I want it to be very clear ‘Young Buck’ was not running from anyone. Upon learning the he was wanted by the Santa Monica Police Department, we, as his attorneys, immediately contacted the Santa Monica Police and assured them that Mr Brown would appear at a mutually convenient time for processing.”
As previously reported on NME.COM, the alleged incident took place at the Vibe awards. 26-year-old Jimmy James Johnson is said to have assaulted Dr Dre at the ceremony at the Santa Monica Airport hangar.
According to local police, Buck was one of three men seen on the videotape with knives. The other two have not been identified.
Johnson suffered a collapsed lung following the fracas and was in a stable condition on Wednesday (November 17) at a hospital. Police have yet to interview him due to his condition, according to Fabrega.
