Zayn Malik is to co-produce a TV drama about life in a boyband.
The former One Direction singer will co-produce Boys for US network NBC with veteran TV producer Dick Wolf.
Boys is written by Sherri Cooper-Landsman and Jennifer Levin, who co-created the TV series Beauty And The Beast, as well as producing Without A Trace.
Wolf has won several Emmys and created Law And Order.
NBC president Jennifer Salke said of Malik’s involvement: “Zayn certainly brings an authentic point of view to this world, where kids are catapulted into fame at a dizzying speed. On top of our excitement around the creative ideas being discussed, we have a lot of respect for the musical and digital ambitions behind the project.”
Dick Wolf’s wife, co-producer Noelle Wolf, said; “We were intrigued by the synergistic potential Zayn brings to the project. Boys will be a show that’s totally integrated on broadcast and digital platforms. Casting and original music will be major components, giving the show promotional potential on multiple levels.”
Although no casting or music has been confirmed, it’s thought Malik is likely to help contribute to the show’s music, following the No 1 success of his debut solo album ‘Mind Of Mine’.
Malik recently guested on MIA’s song ‘Freedun’ and withdrew from a show in Dubai this week with a continuation of his anxiety problems.
