The star has also become the first UK artist to enter the US charts at Number One with a debut single
Zayn Malik has made US chart history and eclipsed his former One Direction bandmates on the Billboard Hot 100.
MTV reports that Malik’s first solo single ‘Pillowtalk’ debuted at Number One on the countdown earlier this week, with the track charting higher than any other song his former band ever released Stateside.
The closest One Direction came to scoring a chart-topping Billboard Hot 100 single was with ‘Best Song Ever’, which reached Number Two in 2013.
That was then followed by Malik-less track ‘Drag Me Down’, which gave the boyband a Number Three hit in August last year.
As well as being the only current or ex-member of One Direction to storm the countdown, Malik has also become the first UK artist to enter the US charts at Number One with a debut single.
Here in the UK, the Bradford-born star has also been setting the charts alight, recently claiming the fastest selling single of 2016 with ‘Pillowtalk’ after the song racked up combined sales of 112,000 in its first week of release.
Malik’s debut solo album ‘Mind of Mine’ is due for release in March.
