Zayn Malik says he didn’t intend to release solo album exactly a year after quitting One Direction

The Bradford singer said that it was purely coincidental

Zayn Malik’s solo album will be released exactly one year on from when he quit One Direction.

Malik has insisted that the release date is purely coincidental and wasn’t chosen to make a statement.

“‘I don’t know, is that how it works out? It’s March 25, it wasn’t planned that way,” he said in an interview with Zach Sang & The Gang. “‘It works that way. It just seems to coincide with the iTunes launch and everything. Maybe it’s a sign.’”

Malik recently released his first solo single ‘Pillowtalk’. The track has topped the iTunes chart in 60 countries since it was released on January 29.

Earlier this month, Malik discussed the explicit tone of the single in a Sunday Times profile. “I think I’m pretty black and white about what it’s about. Everybody has sex, and it’s something people wanna hear about. It’s part of everybody’s life, a very BIG part of life! And you don’t wanna sweep it under the carpet. It has to be talked about,” he said.

Malik recently claimed that he grew bored of life out of the spotlight after leaving One Direction.

His debut album ‘Mind of Mine’ is out in March.
