Zayn Malik says an alien told him to leave One Direction in a dream

Singer left the boy band in March 2015 before releasing debut solo album 'Mind Of Mine'

Zayn Malik has explained when he first knew he wanted to leave pop group One Direction: when an alien told him to do so in a dream.

The singer departed the boy band in March 2015, before releasing his debut solo album ‘Mind Of Mine’ in March of this year.

Speaking to Glamour in a quick-fire Q&A, Malik was asked when was the “first time you realised you wanted to break off from 1D and go off on your own?”. His jovial response was, “An alien spoke to me in a dream”.

Elsewhere in the interview, Malik revealed that his first celebrity crushes were Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the first album he bought was ‘All Eyez on Me’ by 2Pac and that Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ was his biggest inspiration.

Zayn Malik recently voiced his opinion in response to the EU referendum, writing on Twitter, “It’s very sad to see society so fragmented esp in terms of regions, generations and class. We need to pull together now to make it work.”

He went on to add, “People gonna wake the fuck up yet ?” before ending with “As humans. Big love.”
