Movie is set for release on December 18
Twelve new images from the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens have been released to Entertainment Weekly and posted online.
The pictures mostly show the new stars in costume, including villains General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), as well as heroes Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley). See the full set via EW.com.
In an accompanying interview, director JJ Abrams revealed that his motivations in taking on the franchise was the opportunity to answer the question, “Who is Luke Skywalker?”.
“You rarely get a chance to be involved in something that you would typically be an audience for,” he added. “Katie, my wife, said, ‘If you want to do this and you don’t, you’re going to regret this.’ It was really about being willing to take that leap, and jump into the possibilities of what these characters are doing, and where they are.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18 this year and takes place 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi. The film’s script was penned by Abrams, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt and Star Wars franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan.
Meanwhile, Lucasfilm is also working on a series of Star Wars spin-off films which it has titled the ‘Anthology Series’. The first spin-off, Rogue One starring Felicity Jones, will arrive on December 16, 2016.
A second spin-off film focusing on the origins of Harrison Ford’s iconic character Han Solo, was announced last month. The currently untitled film is set for release on May 25, 2018.
