Tatum is joined by Matt Bomber, Joe Manganiello and Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino in the sequel
A new trailer for Magic Mike XXL has been released today (May 6).
Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias all reprise their roles from 2012’s hit comedy-drama about a troupe of male strippers, though their fellow original co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer chose not to return.
The returning cast members are joined by an impressive list of new additions, including Elizabeth Banks, Amber Heard, Jada Pinkett Smith, Andie MacDowell and Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino.
The original Magic Mike was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who serves as an executive producer on the sequel but declined to return to the director’s chair. Gregory Jacobs, a producer on the first film, replaces him behind the camera for Magic Mike XXL.
The film’s official synopsis teases: “Picking up the story three years after Mike (Tatum) bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them.
“On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.”
Magic Mike XXL opens in UK cinemas on July 3.
