Paul Thomas Anderson has discussed working with Daniel Day-Lewis once again for their new film Phantom Thread.
The director and actor famously collaborated together for the acclaimed 2007 drama There Will Be Blood, which saw Day-Lewis pick up the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Phantom Thread, which also stars Lesley Manville and Vicky Krieps, has reunited Anderson and Day-Lewis 10 years after their success with There Will Be Blood, and the director has now spoken about his delight at working with the 60-year-old once again.
“We did research together and we agreed I would share writing with him as we went along,” Anderson told Variety. “Everything in the house of [Reynolds] Woodcock [Day-Lewis’ character] was so particular, in terms of what chair, what silverware, what teacup, so you have to involve Daniel in every aspect of that. It wasn’t as if Mark Bridges, our costume designer, could go independently and create a bunch of costumes and then put them into Reynolds Woodcock’s lap.
“It was very much a collaboration and everything in this world was coming from Reynolds. And that’s as it should be. The production was pushed forward by that.”

Phantom Thread, which is being soundtracked by Radiohead‘s Johnny Greenwood, is set for release on December 25.
Day-Lewis shocked the entertainment world back in June by announcing that Phantom Thread would be his last film.
