Peter Dinklage is in line to play fairy tale character Rumpelstiltskin in a film adaptation by Sony, according to new reports.
Variety says that the Game of Thrones actor is attached to the project as both a lead and a producer. The film is said to be deep in development, with details thin on the ground.
Patrick Ness, the best-selling author of novels such as Chaos Walking and A Monster Calls, both of which have previously been turned into films, is said to be penning a script based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale.
The original story has its roots in tales as far back as 4000 years, and concerns a miller who lies to a king that his daughter can spin thread into gold. The imp-like creature Rumpelstiltskin appears and performs this for her with her first-born child promised in return. When she refuses, he agrees only to let her keep the child if she can guess his name, which she does.
With the final series of Game Of Thrones, currently in production, Dinklage was recently led to speak out following fan speculation that a Super Bowl Doritos ad starring the actor and Morgan Freeman rap battling each other via lip-synced versions of Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliott tracks
Fans began to use the advert as evidence for the long-running theory that Tyrion Lannister is actually of the house Targaryen. This is based primarily on the fact that spicy Doritos made the actor spew fire from his mouth during the advert.
Dinklage responded saying: ““I love every single theory the fans of our show have, because they’re so much fun. But you have to understand that it is a Doritos commercial.”
As well as Game of Thrones, Dinklage has been seen on the big screen in Avengers: Infinity War and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He is also set to appear in the forthcoming TV movie My Dinner with Hervé, playing the French actor Hervé Villechaize in his last days.
