Peter Kay cancels stand-up tour

The comedian was due to go on his first live comedy tour in eight years in 2018, with the tour extending into 2019

Peter Kay has cancelled his 2018-19 stand-up tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

The Bolton comedian was due to undertake his first stand-up tour in over eight years in 2018, with the jaunt due to kick off in Birmingham on April 21, 2018. Tickets for many of the shows sold out instantly after going on sale last month, with the tour set to extend into June 2019.

However, Kay has now announced that he is scrapping the tour – and all of his upcoming work projects – due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

“Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects,” a statement on his website reads.

“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

“My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.

“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry.”

Customers who bought tickets for Kay’s stand-up tour and the Dance For Live shows will be refunded from their original point of purchase, though Dance For Life ticket holders can opt to donate to Cancer Research UK.
