Sony are bringing back the ‘PlayStation Classic’, pre-loaded with 20 “genre defining” games

Social life = over.

Sony has announced that they’re reviving the original PlayStation console, almost 25 years after its initial release.

The console will return as the ‘PlayStation Classic’ and it’s set for release on December 3. The device will cost $99.99 (£89.99) and comes pre-loaded with 20 “genre-defining” titles, including Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, and Ridge Racer Type 4.

As well as the console, PlayStation fans will also receive two classic PS1 controllers for games that offer multiplayer modes.

Although an extensive list of games available is yet to be released, Sony confirms that Jumping Flash and Wild Arms will also be revived once more.

“The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and it emulates the original’s look and feel by featuring similar controllers and packaging”, Sony confirmed in a statement.

“Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all. All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format.”

Sony’s back-to-basics offer comes less than a month before the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 – arguably the most anticipated game of the year.

The sequel to 2010’s Red Dead Redemption will allow users to saddle up once more with further gunfights and battles in America’s wild frontier.
