Production hiatus extended on ‘House of Cards’ after Kevin Spacey’s departure

It's yet to be announced when the show will return...

The production hiatus on the final season of House of Cards is reportedly set to extend for two more weeks as producers mull over how to move forward without Kevin Spacey.

The actor has been axed entirely from the award-winning political drama after facing a slew of sexual misconduct allegations which he has subsequently denied.

Now, it has been confirmed that a break in production will continue amid rumours that Spacey’s co-star Robin Wright could become the new star of the show.

“We continue to work with Netflix with the hope of resuming production soon,” producers Media Rights Capital reportedly told crew in a recent email.

“As we continue these discussions, we have determined together that the crew will be paid for an additional two week hiatus – beginning on November 27th and continuing through December 8th..”

It is believed that two episodes of the show’s sixth and final season were filmed before Spacey’s eventual firing.

“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen”, the email continued.

“The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”

Earlier this month, it was also announced that Spacey would be removed from Ridley Scott’s All The Money In The World, despite production already wrapping ahead of a scheduled December release date.

He has now been replaced by Christopher Plummer in the role of oil magnate John Paul Getty.
