‘Rick And Morty’ fans give verdict as McDonald’s bring back Szechuan sauce

Fans rioted last year when the condiment was brought back for a brief period of time

McDonald’s have brought back their famous Szechuan sauce again – with Rick And Morty fans giving their verdict on the cult condiment.

The condiment was initially stocked in the chain’s restaurants in 1998 as a way to promote Disney’s Mulan. The sauce was later featured in the first episode of season three of Rick And Morty, leading fans to petition for it be brought back.

Last year, McDonald’s announced it would be reintroduced, but only as a “super-limited batch”. Demand far outweighed the supply, with riots sparked when fans couldn’t get their hands on any.

The fast food chain promised it would bring back Szechuan sauce in bigger quantities and, last week (February 22), announced it would ship 20 million packets to every one of its restaurants in the US, as CNBC reports.

The sauce is available now and fans have been weighing in on whether it was worth the wait.

Some thought not:

While others were a little more positive about the sauce:

When the condiment was originally brought back last year, McDonald’s apologised to disappointed customers in a statement. It read: “We did not anticipate the overnight crowds, the cross-state travel and the amazing curiosity, passion and energy fans showed.

“Our super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t near enough to meet that demand. We disappointed fans and we’re sorry.”

Rick & Morty season three concluded last October, where the the show made reference to the potentially lengthy wait fans can expect for season four.

In a post-credits scene, the ever-popular Mr. Poopybutthole declared during a family dinner that season four might not launch for a “really long time”, adding that he could have grandchildren and a hefty beard by the time it’s ready.
