Derek actor Tony Way, Joe Wilkinson (8 Out of 10 Cats) and Kerry Godliman (Our Girl,) have landed lead roles along with famous faces including Penelope Wilton and David Bradley.
Extras’ Ashley Jensen and David Earl are slated to join the cast, while actors who appeared in The Office spin off film David Brent: Life on the Road are also set to star in the show. Pleb’s Tom Basen, This is England’s Jo Hartley will star along with Diane Morgan (Philomena Cunk), Mandeep Dhillon (Bulltetproof) and Roisin Conaty (Man Down).
Speaking about the cast, Gervais said: “This cast combines the best of the new breed of great British comedy talent with some of the wonderful alumni of my previous shows.”
The series is set to follows Tony, (played by Gervais) who decides he no longer cares about himself or anyone around him following his wife’s death. While the widower sees his newfound detachment as a super power, his friends try to bring their old friend back.
The show will run for six episodes of 30 minutes and Gervais is set to direct and executive produce the series.
Gervais released his hugely successful stand up show Humanity on Netflix earlier this year, telling NME it was all about “free speech and offence.”
In March, Gervais responded to rumours he’d fallen out with writing partners Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington.
