‘Riverdale’ pays tribute to Luke Perry in first episode since his death

RIP, Luke.

Riverdale has paid a touching tribute to actor Luke Perry in the first episode to air since the actor died from a “massive stroke”.

The former 90210 star played Fred Andrews in the popular show, with viewers hailing his portrayal of Archie’s laid back dad.

Only days after Perry’s death was confirmed, he played a pivotal role in the latest episode of Riverdale as he rushed to support his on-screen son, played by KJ Apa, after a stabbing.

And as the credits rolled at the end of the episode, an in memoriam segment featured Perry’s name alongside the years of his birth and death (1966-2019).

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previously confirmed that the remaining episodes of the show’s third season will be dedicated to Perry.

“Going through pictures on my way to set. From the early days. With Luke in the middle,” said Aguirre-Sacasa on Twitter. “Our heart, always. Tonight’s episode of #Riverdale finds Fred doing what he does best – helping Archie.

“It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run.”

Confirming Perry’s death on Monday, spokesman Arnold Robinson said: “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

The Killers were among those to pay tribute to the actor, after he appeared in the video for ‘¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!’
