Rob Zombie turns his back on ‘The Blob’ remake

The director is now making 'The Lords of Salem'

Heavy metal musician and horror director Rob Zombie has announced he will not be remaking 1958 classic The Blob, and is now making an original horror entitled The Lords Of Salem.

Zombie, who will write the script as well, had planned to make the film several years ago. The Lords of Salem tells the story of a small US town being invaded by a 300 year-old coven of witches.

Zombie told he decided not to persue the The Blob following the backlash to his Halloween remake and its subsequent sequel.

“I’ve had differing levels of control, with the best experience being Lionsgate on The Devil’s Rejects, when I made the movie and they said, `Great’,” he said. “The two Halloween movies were more give and take, and I had enough bloody battles to get my way that by the time I got it, I didn’t care anymore. I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material. The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different.”

He added: “I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn’t go through that again.”
