RoboCop remake set to move forward

Brazialian director Jose Padilha linked to project

The long-rumoured remake of RoboCop could be back on, according to reports.

Studio MGM have long been planning to revisit Paul Verhoeven‘s 1987 original about a futuristic crimefighter kept alive through robotic implants. Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky had been linked to the project in recent years, but it was shelved while the studio experienced financial difficulties.

Now, Deadline Hollywood is reporting that the reconstituted company is pressing ahead with plans.

They are currently negotiating with Brazilian director Jose Padilha to revive Robocop. Executives have been impressed with his with his work on crime drama series Elite Squad. The second of the Portuguese-language films outgrossed Avatar, Shrek Forever and Alice In Wonderland in Brazil.
