Roy Walker is ‘eternally grateful’ to Shaun Ryder for saving his life

Catchphrase’s Roy Walker has said he is “eternally grateful” to Happy MondaysShaun Ryder, after the singer jumped to his rescue while the pair were filming a new TV show.

After Walker cut his leg and found himself underwater in Sardinia, Ryder dived into the sea to save the 77-year-old. He had reportedly been hit by a large wave while paddle-boarding.

Speaking of the accident to Digital Spy, Walker’s representative said: “He says he’s eternally grateful to Shaun and has made a lifelong friend – a longer life than he would have had otherwise!”

The pair were shooting an upcoming ITV show, 100 Years Younger in 21 days. During the upcoming reality show, a group of celebrities attempt to reverse the ageing process without the use of surgery.

It’s not the first time Ryder has ventured into reality TV, either. In 2010 he took part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here and has appeared on Channel 4’s cooking show Come Dine With Me.

In 2016, the Black Grape frontman spoke out against anyone who questions his legitimacy as a musician for appearing on such shows.

“I don’t give a fuck if some young smart arse goes, ‘Hey, you’re not a real musician, ‘cos you did Come Dine With Me,’” he said. “It’s like, Fuck off! Let’s see where you are 10, 15 years down the line, you sad c*nt.”

Last year, Ryder revealed that he kicked his drug habit by taking up cycling.
