The first trailer for the secret ‘Ghostbusters’ sequel has already arrived

I ain't afraid of no ghost...

The first teaser trailer for Ghostbusters 3 has arrived, less than 24 hours after the secret project was announced.

After decades of uncertainty, it was confirmed last night that the project will arrive in 2020, directed by Jason Reitman – the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan.

It is believed to be entirely unconnected to the divisive 2016 reboot, but Entertainment Weekly reports that it will instead focus on “the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie” – which starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.

Now, we’ve been offered the briefest of glimpses of what to expect.

In the first look at the film, we see an eerie shot of a dark and secluded barn, before the camera focuses on a mysterious object that is hidden under a tarpaulin.

It’s eventually revealed that the object just so happens to be the iconic ECTO-1 car, with Elmer Bernstein’s iconic score kicking in as the trailer fades out.

Describing the project, Reitman said: “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

It’s yet to be revealed whether Murray, Aykroyd or any other surviving members of the cast will make their return.

Asked about the female-led reboot of the Ghostbusters franchise which came out in 2016 and starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, Reitman confirmed that his film wouldn’t have many ties to Paul Feig’s.

“I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them,” Reitman said. “However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film.”

Sony have confirmed that the new Ghostbusters movie will be released in time for summer 2020. No casting details have been announced as yet.
