Simon Bird: ”The Inbetweeners’ film is a risk’

Actor admits he's got reservations about feature film

The Inbetweeners star Simon Bird has admitted that making a film of the series is a risk.

The hit E4 sitcom is set for a big-screen adaptation, following the four friends on a lads’ holiday to Malia.

But the actor, who plays Will in the series, told Shortlist that the cast are apprehensive in the wake of previous Britcom movie disasters.

“I don’t think there’s anyone more aware of the fact that the idea of The Inbetweeners doing a British feature film might receive a critical beating,” he said.

He added: “It’s like the Kevin And Perry factor. Everyone involved in the film is aware of that and we’re doing all we can to make sure no self-respecting critic could write a bad thing about it. It definitely feels more cinematic and hopefully works as a standalone movie.”

The film is being directed by Ben Palmer and is expected to be released this summer.
