Simon Pegg has given fans an update on the progress on Star Trek 4.

The actor and filmmaker plays Scotty in the sci-fi movie franchise. The latest instalment, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016.

Speaking to HeyUGuys, Pegg said: “As far as I know, we are pushing ahead. We are in prep, I think, for it, but then there’s so much to do before we start shooting, like making sure everybody is available.”

At present, there are no firm details confirmed for Star Trek 4, including title, release date or new castings.

Meanwhile, Patrick Stewart could return as Jean-Luc Picard in an all-new Star Trek TV series. Alex Kurtzman, the executive producer behind CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, has reportedly signed a new deal with CBS Television Studios that keeps him with the studio for another five years, where he will expand the franchise with a new show.

In a recent red carpet interview, Stewart was asked if he had seen Star Trek: Discovery, to which he replied he hadn’t but he “may have good cause to look at it soon.”

Earlier this month, Pegg gave his final answer on whether Spaced will ever return to our screens. The cult series ran for two seasons between 1999 and 2001. Fielding fan questions during an interview with NME, the star said: “That question will never go away. The more they ask, the less likely it is.”
