Slaves say new album sounds ‘heavy’ and ‘very different’ to debut

Duo have finished second record and follow-up to 'Are You Satisfied?'

Slaves have teased their upcoming second album in a new interview.

The band recently revealed their new album is finished and will be released “soon”. The album will follow 2015’s Mercury Prize-nominated ‘Are You Satisfied?’

Speaking to DIY, vocalist Isaac Holman said, “We’ve done all the music, it’s just the finishing touches now; it’s about concentrating on artwork and tracklisting, things like that.”

Stating that it will sound “very different” to ‘Are You Satisfied?’, guitarist Laurie Vincent revealed that their label Sony reacted to the release simply by saying it was “really heavy”.

Explaining the quick completion of the record, Vincent continued: “In the modern world, where people like The Weeknd do three albums a year, it feels like there’s no excuse to drop off.”

“We just felt like we had the material and we were writing really quickly, so were like, let’s just do it. People asked if we wanted to take a break, but we said no.”

Back in April the band postponed a Derby show in order to get the recording finished. They apologised in a Facebook post saying, “We have nearly got album two done but need an extra week to finish it. Thanks for your patience.”

Last month (July 26), the band revealed that they were filming a video for “some music we wrote”.

Slaves haven’t released any new music since they teamed up with Chase & Status back in February for the single ‘Control’, although outside the studio it’s been a busy time for the band. Earlier in the year they picked up the Best Music Video prize at NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas.

They will conclude their festival season with two sets at this year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals.
