St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein are writing their own comedy concert film

We can't wait for this

St. Vincent and Carrie Brownstein have written a comedy concert film together, which will see the pair portray exaggerated versions of themselves.

The longtime friends and collaborators previously joined forces on a series of mock interview segments promoting St. Vincent’s latest album, ‘MASSEDUCTION‘. Annie Clark is also producing Brownstein’s band Sleater-Kinney’s upcoming new album.

Now, it has been reported that the pair are working on a concert movie. Collider reports that the musicians have teamed up for the as-yet-untitled release, which will show them play “heightened versions of themselves”.

Although the project sounds like it could be a David Brent-esque spoof, an unnamed studio source told Stereogum that it “isn’t a ‘mockumentary,’ as Collider first reported, but rather, a scripted film that was to have been shot like a documentary.”

As well as serving as a co-writer, Brownstein is also said to be co-producing alongside Jett Steiger and Lana Kim. Portlandia editor and director Bill Benz is set to direct, having previously worked with Brownstein on the US comedy series.

The film has reportedly not yet gone into production.

St. Vincent is also at work on a female-led film adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s novel, The Picture Of Dorian Gray. Back in 2017, she produced a short for the anthology horror film, XX
