‘Star Wars’ invades new mockumentary trailer for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler film ‘Sisters’ – watch

The trailer nods to the films' shared release date with the hashtag #YOUCANSEETHEMBOTH

A new Star Wars-themed behind-the-scenes mockumentary trailer for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s new comedy film Sisters debuted last night.

Sisters and the highly anticipated film Star Wars: The Force Awakens are both released in the USA on December 18. Mining the tropes set by the extensive promo for the new Star Wars film, the Sisters trailer is titled ‘The Farce Awakens’ and initially features cast and crew talking about “keeping one foot in the pre-digital world” and “getting back to the old ways of doing things”, before making reference to the furry Star Wars character Chewbacca.

In the clip former Saturday Night Live co-stars Fey and Poehler both adopt faux-British accents. “We’re really drunk”, says Poehler. Towards the end of the trailer is a nod to Star Wars‘ star-smudging hyperspace jumps, a cameo by George Takei as Darth Vader, and a joke hashtag, #YOUCANSEETHEMBOTH, referencing the films’ shared release dates and opposing genres.

Sisters has a UK release date of December 12 – a week before the Star Wars film. The first trailer for Sisters, the forthcoming comedy film reuniting former Saturday Night Live co-stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, has been released.

Longtime collaborators Fey and Poehler play sisters who have drifted apart in the eagerly-anticipated comedy, which has a script by another Saturday Night Live alumnus, writer Paula Pell. Fey served as one of the film’s producers alongside Meet The Parents director Jay Roach and Austin Powers producer John S. Lyons, while Poehler is credited as an executive producer.

The film’s official plot synopsis teases: “Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.”

Fey and Poehler previously starred together in the 2008 comedy film Baby Mama, while Poehler also appeared in Fey’s cult 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls. They also co-hosted the annual Golden Globe Awards together in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
