Stars pay tribute to Berlin lorry attack victims

James Arthur, Sam Duckworth, Mary Anne Hobbs are among those paying their respects

A host of stars have been reacting on Twitter to the Berlin lorry attack which left 12 people dead.

Former X Factor contestant James Arthur, La Toya Jackson, Lee Ryan from Blue, former Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly singer Sam Duckworth, Nathan Fake and Mary Ann Hobbs were among those who expressed their sadness at the attack which also left 48 people injured.

Arthur was in Berlin just hours before the attack which saw a lorry plough through the popular market at Breitscheidplatz, near west Berlin’s main shopping street last night (December 19), reports BBC News.

He wrote: “So sad to hear what happened at the Christmas market in Berlin today. I left that spot just this morning. Thoughts are with the families.”

Sam Duckworth added: “Berlin you are a wonderful place and I hope you are able to respond to this in the powerful, inclusive and dignified way you always do.”

Actress Mia Farrow meanwhile, said the tragedy was “awful” and she was sending her “best thoughts” to all in Berlin.

The truck, which was loaded with steel beams, veered into the market, crashing through wooden huts and stands packed with tourists and locals.

Meanwhile, Arthur is due to embark on a short UK touring stint tonight.

The 2012 X Factor winner was recently Number One in the UK singles chart with his comeback hit ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’. He released new album ‘Back From The Edge’ on October 28.

Arthur will mark his return with shows in London, Birmingham and Manchester for December.
