Sylvester Stallone to produce global competition series ‘Ultimate Beastmaster’ for Netflix
Sylvester Stallone will produce a new Gladiator style competition TV series for Netflix.
Ultimate Beastmaster sees competitors from six different countries take on a demanding obstacle course known as “The Beast”.
The series will be broadcast in six countries, with local languages, contestants and hosts from each nation, including: the U.S. Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, Germany and Japan.
Netflix has commissioned 10 hourlong episodes, each featuring 12 competitors battling to be crowned the “Beastmaster”. The nine individual winners will then compete against each other in the final episode of the show to become the “Ultimate Beastmaster”.
“The invitation to partner with Netflix and mega-producer Dave Broome on this revolutionary concept was an opportunity I couldn’t resist,” said Stallone. “The world will watch in awe as amazing competitors from around the globe overcome grueling physical challenges — and in the process become champions and heroes. The course is unequaled in its daring creation and I am excited to be a part of it.”
Stallone is also planning to take on his first role in a television drama. The Creed actor will play a mafia boss in an adaption of Mario Puzo’s Omerta. The novel is the final book of a crime trilogy that started with The Godfather, the inspiration for the 1972 film of the same name. Omerta was published posthumously in 2000, a year after Puzo death.
Stallone’s career has been thrust back into the spotlight following his Oscar nomination for Rocky spinoff, Creed, despite missing him out on the award.
