The producers of The Purge have responded after it emerged that Donald Trump’s re-election campaign in 2020 is taking some inspiration from the dystopian horror franchise.
Last year, it emerged that Trump will seek re-election under the ‘Keep America Great’ slogan. It later transpired that the very same slogan had been the tag-line for ‘The Purge: Election Year’ upon release in 2016.
But while you’d have perhaps thought that the coincidence would prompt Trump’s team to consider a change, HuffPost claims that they’re very much keen on keeping it.
What’s more, Purge producers Andrew Form and Brad Fuller aren’t surprised in the slightest.
“It felt kind of natural after we made the movie and then he used that”, the pair told HuffPost.
Of course, the ‘Keep America Great’ slogan was a direct response to Trump himself, after he was elected under the ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan.
Last month, Trump himself told supporters of plans to rebrand his iconic red hats with the “Keep America Great” slogan in 2020.
And ahead of releasing ‘The First Purge’ last month, the film was promoted with some very similar headwear.
