‘Tomb Raider’ to return to the big screen

Lara Croft will be going on further adventures

Tomb Raider and Lara Croft are set to return to the big screen.

The GK Films company have reportedly come on board to acquire feature film rights for the video game spin-off action franchise.

The new project will be produced by Graham King and Tim Headington and track the further adventures of the gun-toting archeologist, according to Deadline.com.

King said: “We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon.”

The news follows the previous announcement of a new game that will explore the origins of the heroine Lara Croft. The original game was released in 1996 and became of the most successful game franchise of all time, selling 35 million units.

Two films in the franchise were made starring Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003. The new project is expected to hit cinemas in 2013.
