‘Training Day’ TV series in development for US network CBS

The movie's director Antoine Fuqua will helm the pilot

A TV series based on the 2001 film Training Day will soon by hitting US screens.

Deadline reports that the project is currently in development for CBS after the network trumped its rivals in a bidding war for the show.

The movie’s director Antoine Fuqua is executive-producing the series, and will helm the pilot from a script penned by Will Beall (Gangster Squad).

As was the case with the original movie, which starred Denzel Washington (in an Oscar-winning performance) and Ethan Hawke, the series (from Warner Bros TV, Fuqua Films and Jerry Bruckheimer TV) will focus on the relationship between the two LA cops, one a rookie, the other corrupt.

Fuqua’s latest movie, Southpaw, is currently in UK cinemas. He’s also directing the forthcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven, which will reunite the filmmaker with Washington and Hawke.
