A new trailer for the upcoming third season of True Detective has given more of a glimpse of its new star, Mahershala Ali, in action – check out the tense preview clip below.
The crime anthology series will return in January 2019 – four years on from its second season, which starred the likes of Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams. The richly-acclaimed first season, which paired Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the leads, came out in January 2014.
After fans were given a first preview of Moonlight star Ali in character as detective Wayne Hays in a September trailer, HBO have continued the promotional trail for season three of True Detective today (November 2) by releasing a brand new teaser clip.
Ali’s character is seen in the trailer investigating the disappearance of two children in the Ozarks – but, as the clip reveals, it is a troubling case that’ll continue to haunt Hays well into his later years. See the trailer below.
Ali will be joined by the likes of Stephen Dorff, Carmen Ejogo and Mamie Gummer on the cast for season three. The new episodes are expected to premiere in the US on January 13, 2019 on HBO, with a UK air date yet to be confirmed.
The season will comprise of eight episodes, with Jeremy Saulnier having helmed the first two episodes. Daniel Sackheim and True Detective creator/executive producer Nic Pizzolatto shared directing duties on the remaining six instalments.
