A solo ‘Jessica Jones’ comic is to be released later this year

A new Jessica Jones solo comic is to be released later this year.

The character was previously a part of the Alias story in the early noughties and its sequel The Pulse.

Yesterday (July 12), Marvel announced the original Alias creative team were working on a solo Jessica Jones comic, following last year’s Netflix series centred around the private eye.

“I’ve worked with other artists on Jessica and always enjoyed it, but in my mind she never looks and feels and breathes and smells more like Jessica than when Michael [Gaydos, interior artist] draws her,” writer Brian Michael Bendis said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“That is the signature in which people think of her, of those visuals. So having them all back together and having everyone be just a little bit better at their jobs — I think Michael is a better illustrator and David [Mack, cover artist] is a better painter — and I have to rise to the occasion and meet them.”

Marvel said one of the reasons there has been such a long wait for new Jessica Jones stories was because she had moved on with her life, having a baby with her long-term partner Luke Cage.

Bendis says the new series sees her life becoming less together than when she last featured in a comic.

“You’re going to find out about it in the first issue. We’re going to open up a book where Jessica’s world has blown up in her face,” Bendis told IGN. “She’s at a place you’ll least expect her. You’re going to find all of her relationships have altered. And we’re slowly going to find out why. I do like writing Jessica where we have to figure out ‘why this has happened?'”
