BBC comedy to celebrate its 20th anniversary
Absolutely Fabulous is to return to the BBC for three specials to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the show.
As reported by the BBC, all the original cast are set to return, with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley having already been pictured in full Patsy and Edina clothes and make-up.
Speaking about the show’s return, its creator, as well as its main star, Jennifer Saunders said:
Like a good bottle of champagne we hope that we have got better with time without losing any of our sparkle. Last week when we started filming in dear old west London, it was as if nothing had changed. It was raining.
The show began in 1992 and ran for 11 years, encompassing five series and three Christmas specials.
As well as Saunders and Lumley returning, the original supporting players of Saffy (Julia Sawalha), Bubble (Jane Horrocks) and Edina’s mother (June Whitfield) will also appear.
Details released about the specials include a storyline about the 2012 Olympics and a host of special guests, including, in the words of a BBC spokesman, “a very big fish indeed”.
During its run, Absolutely Fabulous was nominated for a host of awards, taking home two BAFTA‘s, an Emmy and a British Comedy Award.
