Seth MacFarlane's cult animated sitcom has recently moved networks in the US
American Dad! is to return for a 12th season.
The cult animated sitcom co-created by Seth MacFarlane debuted on US network Fox in 2005 and ran for 10 seasons there, before moving to a different network, TBS, midway through its 11th season, which began in September.
Now TBS has ordered 22 new episodes of the show, with the new run due to begin in autumn 2015.
“By ordering a new season while the current season is early in its run, we’re ensuring that Seth MacFarlane and his team will have the freedom to take the misadventures of the CIA agent Stan Smith and his family to a whole new level,” a TBS representative said in a press statement.
American Dad! follows the trials and tribulations of CIA agent Sam Smith, voiced by MacFarlane, and his wife Francine, daughter Hayley and son Steve, as well as their unusual family pet, a man in a fish body named Klaus. Patrick Stewart has a recurring voice role as Stan Smith’s boss, Deputy Director Avery Bullock.
